They've got one way out.... and one night”.
The Book and Record Bar and FEAST Film Nights present a screening of Walter Hill's 1979 cult classic The Warriors.
The drama plunges headlong into New York's gang warfare. When a move to unify the city's gangs proves fatal, one – the Warriors – is blamed. They begin an odyssey: to fight their way past all the other gangs and get home.
The Warriors is a controversial revamp of an Ancient Greek mythological tale with an epic soundtrack and outlandish costume design.
In addition to the film screening we have DJs Keyboard Masher and Matthew Court who will be playing music from and inspired by the film – funk, soul, disco, synth, pop, punk, new wave, no wave, early hip-hop and house until 1am
Keyboard Masher aka Kenny Wisdom is the man partly responsible for the KM Editions, Keyboard Masher and Pleasure Unit and Pleasure Wave 12s that you may have seen in all good record shops since 2010 (and still releasing edits and original tracks today)
He also used to run the Keyboard Masher blog which featured rare and obscure disco / Balearic cuts from around the world.
And he also co-produced one of the best house records of recent times here
If you want to get listening to one of his mixes then this beauty from the excellent Test Pressing website will do the trick nicely
Matthew Court is a music journalist and collector of vinyl from all around the world and a fine DJ to boot.
He has written articles for the much respected Wax Poetics website and also Shook mag. You can sample some of his insightful writing here
And his musical selection here
Can you dig it?
