LEGO Glossary
LEGO has lot of jargon and terminology, so this page is to try and explain a lot of them. if you feel I have missed any please let me know via email to nick@brightgreenpenguin.com
AFOL
Adult Fan of LEGO
Ambassador
A person from a LEGO User Group (LUG) who is a liaison between LEGO Group and their LUG through the LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN)
Anti-Stud
The indentation under most bricks and plates which allows the stud to connect and form the LEGO interlocking system
Billund
Billund, Denmark. The home of LEGO and where The LEGO Group’s headquarters is located
BOLOCS
Build out of lots of colours
BURP
Big Ugly Rock Piece
Cheese
A 1x1 or 1x2 slope piece
Claw
A 1x1 plate with grip on the side
Dark Ages
The period of time you grew out of being a KFOL and become a AFOL. Some people never have a dark ages, me I have one for quite a well before I got back into LEGO
Dots
A 1x1 tile, round, square or quarter circle piece
KFOL
Kid Fan of LEGO
Knolling
Arranging a set before building by laying out the pieces parallel or at 90 degrees angles form each other. Usually followed by photographing them from above.
LAN
LEGO Ambassador Network. The LEGO Group’s official program for adult fans. They give give ambassadorship to adult fans from Recognised LEGO User Groups (RLUGs), Recognised LEGO Fan Medias (RLFM) and Recognised LEGO Online Communities (RLOC). LEGO provide support and communicate with the ambassadors through the LAN
Laundrette
A 1x4 headlight brick
LOC
LEGO Online Community. Group of LEGO fans who meet online rather than in person.
LFM
LEGO Fan Media. Outlets such as physical magazines as well as websites, YouTube channels, blogs etc focusing on LEGO history, product reviews or news.
LUG
LEGO User Group. These are groups created by LEGO fans either from a particular location or particular build theme like trains.
LURP
Large Ugly Rock Piece

My Own Creation - A LEGO model built without instructions from LEGO Group, and created by the builder.
Pincer
A 1x1 plate with grip on the top
RLFM
Recognised LEGO Fan Media.
RLOC
Recognised LEGO Online Community
RLUG
Recognised LEGO User Group
Rory
A 2x4 Brick
SNIR
Studs Not In A Row. A building technique where LEGO pieces are placed at an angle or offset instead of being connected as normal.
SNOT
Studs Not On Top. A building technique that places LEGO elements either on their side or upside down, so the studs are not on top. This is to create a particular shape or finish to their creation
Stamp
Sticker stuck across multiple parts
Stud
The knob on top of the LEGO brick. This serves as a measure unit, i.e. a 2x4 brick is 2 studs by 4 studs
Telescope
A LEGO piece which looks like a telescope
TFOL
Teenage Fan of LEGO
Washing Machine
A headlight brick
