Brighton Bricks

Encouraging Learning Through Play

 About Me

I am Nick, and I am a LEGO Fan!

The reason I set up Brighton Brick was because I got back into LEGO and wondered I can’t be the only other adult fan of LEGO here in Brighton. These were the days before I know what an AFOL was, or the huge community out there

Brighton Bricks has expanded since then, and we do many things like our LEGO Challenges, have resource pages like the PAB wall as well as doing our posts about mental health wellbeing.

I was a massive LEGO fan as a kid, I remember winning a LEGO Space set at the Brighton Model World exhibition sometime back in the 80s. I loved Classic Space, making my own spaceships as well having a LEGO City. Like a lot of people, as I got older I forgot about LEGO and got other interests.

My journey back to LEGO has several stop starts, I remember getting the Star Wars Land Speeder in 1999 after spotting it in a toy shop but it didn’t get me back into the hobby, neither did a LEGO Studios Cameraman set either. I remember looking at all the Studio sets and thinking it be cool to get them, but never did.

Then I remembered in 2008 seeing the Indiana Jones sets and thinking how cool there were.

I can’t remember the exact set which did get back into the hobby but there a few sets which I remember which have memories for me

Series 3 & Series 4 of the Collectable Minifigures from 2011 which were the main thing which got me back as an AFOL. Especially The Monster figure from series 4, as I love Frankenstein.

Army Men on Patrol from Toy Story, this is a set which my wife bought me for a birthday or some other celebration and made me realised it was okay to get LEGO as a gift

Haunted House from the Monster Fighter theme in 2012 was the set which made me realised how much I loved LEGO, and what LEGO could do.

And since then it has been a lot more LEGO building for me!
