#RoaldDahl100 Celebration of Roald Dahl
September 13th 2016 marks 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, and for me Roald Dahl's books were a big part of my life, so this is a blog celebrating the books I loved and some cool Roald Dahl inspired gifts you can buy
My favourite book as a kid was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, not just my favourite Roald Dahl book but my most favourite book as a kid. A book I would read, finish then read again.
And this was the cover of the book I had. I just loved the idea of a chocolate factory, and all the mad inventions which was going on inside. Wishing I had a golden ticket
I did read some of the other books, and enjoyed James and the Giant Peach, The Twits, BFG, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, and George's Marvelous Medicine

So the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, was one of my favourite films growing up and today it is still one of my favourite films. The late Gene Wilder was how Willy Wonka should be, slightly serious, slightly comical, and with a bit of mischief in his eye but not out of this world crazy like the Jonny Depp role. The 1971 had collection of good songs, and amazing set design, and it was a bit freaky in places - who remembers the boat ride which had the chicken head scene in it, and it did have the one scene I felt really annoying - the fizzy pop scene, and them floating up to the top of the room. Not sure why I felt it was annoying, just did
and it had this one song
The Tim Burton film was okay in places but not the same, and the musical was good, amazing to see on stage, but still not quite the magic of Gene Wilder
So my image of Willy Wonka is the purple coat of Gene Wilder, and here are a few cool collectables to get if you are a fan like me. All of these are available from places like www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk
Though Roald Dahl isn't just Willy Wonka, and the recent BFG film was a great version, the title character really brought the images I had when I read the book as a kid. Though slight nit picking with the Funko Pop BFG - it was too small, same size as the normal figs, yet there make a large figure for Stay Puft, why not one for BFG
