How to Make An Advent Calendar out of LEGO Bricks

One of the things I loved about the build up to Christmas as a kid was the homemade advent calendar made out of matchboxes. in the style of a clock. So i decided to build my own advent calendar for my little one last year when he was just two. It didn’t take me too long to realise it should be made from LEGO, and after several various attempts I came up with this

One of the great aspects of this design, is the ability to customise this, you can add whatever theme you want to it, be it Christmas or Star Wars. You can make the calendar out of one colour brick, or make a pattern or go for random colours and build using whatever bricks you have.

What to put in an homemade advent calendar?

What can you fit inside an advent calendar like this? As our little was only 2, we decided we didn’t need to spend too much money on it, and we could even re-use some of his existing toys (luckily at that age he didn’t notice something went missing, and was excited to see the toys again)

The advent calendar is perfect size for LEGO minifigures.

Other stuff we put in was pebbles & shells from the beach, small little toys, snacks, keyrings,

This year we are planning to put in some of his LEGO minifigures (hoping this year he doesn’t miss them), as well as cool Marvel figures from the Battleworld Game

Want to build your own LEGO Advent Calendar?

If you would like instructions on how to build your own advent calendar, you can purchase the instructions for £5. Email me at nick@brightgreenpenguin.com and I can send you my PayPal details, and then I can email you a PDF copy.

The instructions give you a part list, so you can build the parts from your own stash. If you need parts let me know and I can still what I can do.

The advent calendar uses 720 parts, and to design it I used a variety of colours to show the different stages but you are free to change any of the colours you need.
