How LEGO Bricks can help with Learning about Words

LEGO isn’t just about play in its self, it can be used for learning. Sometimes the best learning is when we don’t know you are learning, and that is why play is so good. Here are a couple of ways you can use LEGO or DUPLO bricks to help the process of learning about words.

Use LEGO Bricks to build letters or words.

  • This can help with spelling, as you can ask them to build a word and see if they able to spell it.

  • What the letters look like in lower or upper case

  • Get them to say the word or letter after they have build it

  • You can even use DUPLO bricks like the photo below to create each letter out of bricks

Write down words on the side of LEGO Bricks

You can use either labels or a marker (check what you going to use and see if will permanently mark your LEGO Bricks and see if you happy with that)

This can help them put sentences together, as well as a fun way of creating stories / poetry by putting word blocks together.

Instead of words, you can write down letters on the side of bricks, and get them to form words.

Or a fun game where you mis-spell a word, and they have to move the blocks around to get the correct spelling.
