Encouraging Learning Through Play
To me, one of the best live albums of all time is Faith No More's Live at Brixton, just great capturing of their sound and energy
I saw them once live, supporting Guns 'n' Roses in the early 90s at Wembley Stadium, and they were amazing. Almost overshadowing the main act.
This weeks album is the self titled debut album by Vampire Weekend, a band I first saw at Glastonbury back in 2010 (or was it 2011) Never heard of them before, but such catchy songs I just had to buy the album when I got back to reality. I think by the time I saw them they had already released two albums, so ended up getting both, but it is the first albums catchy songs which is special for me. Always been a big Paul Simon fan, so the echoes of that does help a lot
As it is my first wedding anniversary today, this week's pick is dedicated to Mrs Penguin. It is The Truth About Love by Pink
To be honest I didn't know much about Pink before meeting my other half, just knew the song Lets Get The Party Started, but Claire was a big fan of hers, and for her birthday treat a few years ago I took her to see Pink live. It was her The Truth of Love tour, so I borrowed the album beforehand to listen to, it was okay. But once I saw the live show, and if you ever get a chance I really do recommend seeing Pink live, pure stage show, great performer.
So afterwards started to listen to the album again, and slowly started to realise what a great album it is.

This weeks album is the Rizzle Kicks debut album. Just filled with catchy tunes, I first discovered them via iTunes free single of the week, it was Prophet. Liked it so much, got the album and even later on the second album.
#penguinsfavalbums has been a twitter thing for me for over a year. Now I have the website, I will be blogging my picks. This will allow me to explain a bit more why I have picked it
This week it is Monty Python's Sing.

Why? Have can you not pick an album which has Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, Lumberjack Song, Knights of Round Table, Meaning of Life
But it is also songs like Accountancy Shanty, Galaxy Song, Decomposing Composers which are nice treats. Monty Python is such a part of British culture, from something which was so unconventional, I remember as at secondary school performing the live donor sketch. Did the Agruement sketch for a variety shown when I used to do Am-Dram.
For me, Monty Python has moved away from the sketches and the films, and for me it is about the songs. Humour but also contains a good tune
