Today I have been informed by PIP-UK, a charity for people who suffer with Poland Syndrome, a rare birth defect about a new way they have for raising money
Interesting idea, and it shows how charities need to think of new ways to fundraise.
Poland Syndrome is rare birth defect. So rare the actual number of incidences of Poland Syndrome across the UK and in fact the world is not known. It is estimated to be between 1 in 7,000 births to 1 in 30,000 births. It is more common in men than women in fact about it has been suggested the occurrence is like to be 75% more common in men.
Poland Syndrome appears visually on one side of the body, the chest can appear sunken on one side, and is frequently accompanied by a smaller hand on the same side. At birth there may be missing fingers, webbed fingers or joined digits. This is referred to as syndactyly. There has been some research to suggest around 10% of people who were born with syndactyly were also born with Poland Syndrome.
