#penguinsfavalbums Vampire Weekend

This weeks album is the self titled debut album by Vampire Weekend, a band I first saw at Glastonbury back in 2010 (or was it 2011) Never heard of them before, but such catchy songs I just had to buy the album when I got back to reality. I think by the time I saw them they had already released two albums, so ended up getting both, but it is the first albums catchy songs which is special for me. Always been a big Paul Simon fan, so the echoes of that does help a lot

Gin Art @ Brush Brighton

Thursday night was the PV of the new exhibition at Brush Brighton, an art gallery / hairdressers.

My first visit there, and was impressed with their The Brighton Gin Art Prize exhibition, where Brush have joined up with Brighton Gin

People were invited to take a empty Brighton Gin bottle and customise it in any way they want. It was really interesting to see so all the different styles and takes on this. Wish I know about this beforehand, as it would have been cool to have a go.... but I do recommend checking out the exhibition.

See photos below, also they have a cool selection of cards & prints, so perfect way of support the #justacard campaign.

And I don't if this dog belongs to the owners or one of the visitors, but so cute!!!

#penguinsfavalbums The Truth About Love - Pink

As it is my first wedding anniversary today, this week's pick is dedicated to Mrs Penguin. It is The Truth About Love by Pink

Unknown-6.jpeg

To be honest I didn't know much about Pink before meeting my other half, just knew the song Lets Get The Party Started, but Claire was a big fan of hers, and for her birthday treat a few years ago I took her to see Pink live. It was her The Truth of Love tour, so I borrowed the album beforehand to listen to, it was okay. But once I saw the live show, and if you ever get a chance I really do recommend seeing Pink live, pure stage show, great performer.

So afterwards started to listen to the album again, and slowly started to realise what a great album it is.

So happy anniversary Mrs Penguin from Mr Penguin

The Martian - Film Thoughts

Here is my my first Film Thoughts blog, and it is on The Martian, which we saw tonight. It is a my thoughts about the film rather than a review, as it may go off in different directions. May feature lots of visual imagery, but mainly giving you my impression on the film

So what do I think about the film? I loved it, when I first heard about the idea of the film, which was a long time ago I was curious into the idea. Was tempted to read the book, but wanted to see the visuals of Mars to appear on screen, and not know what the story was about.

The plot is strait forward, it is Robinson Crusoe on Mars, but that isn't the point. What is great about the film is the visuals, the designer of the film, the costumes, the whole look

But it was also the acting, Matt Damon is one of those actors who can be both tough and sensitive, and for an actor to carry a lot of the film on his own he does amazing job. It is also the supporting cast which are help make it more than a one trick pony. Great actors all over the place (and Jessica Chastain back with another good Sci-Film after Interstellar)

Lastly I have to give special mentions to both the soundtrack & the humour, it was so much funnier than I imagined it would be.

15 Things You Didn't Know About The Martian youtube video

Some cool The Martian t-shirts on Redbubble

Lastly will need to let you know so you not disappointed after seeing the film. Marvin the Martin doesn't make an appearance

#BatmanDay

It was #BatmanDay, and for me Batman is one of the most interesting characters out there for two reasons. One, the length of time he has been around, over 75years which brings me to the second reason, the fact he has survived for so long means he has changed and has been so many different things. From the 1960s TV Star to the more darker movies of recent years. He has been played for laughs, for drama, out of this world fantasy adventures. He represent the era we live in

So I am going to pick a few images of the many different elements I love about Batman, and how he has been represented over the years

Comic Covers

Toys

Alternative Merchandising

Funny

Batman looks a bit different?

And to end with some photos of the classic 1960s TV show

#Justacard

There is a great campaign on Twitter to encourage people to support local shops, galleries, designers & makers.

So when you next need a greetings card, check out local shops & designers rather than getting something from a chain store
